Monica Mattson

Monica Mattson was born and raised in Watertown, South Dakota. After graduating from high school, Monica attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota, with majors in English and Sociology and a minor in Spanish. After graduating in 1994 summa cum laude, she attended the University of North Dakota School of Law. Monica obtained her Juris Doctor in 1997.

Monica began her legal career in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at East River Legal Services, where she provided comprehensive legal services to eligible clients in matters litigated in civil, administrative, and appellate proceedings. Areas of practice included family law, housing law, employment and contract law, social security disability issues, elder law, bankruptcy and consumer law, and administrative law.

In December 2000, Monica began employment as a Deputy State’s Attorney for the Minnehaha County State’s Attorney’s Office, where she performed legal work on behalf of Minnehaha County in the prosecution of all types of criminal matters, including felony, misdemeanor, and juvenile matters. She also prosecuted civil matters for the county, including involuntary civil commitments before the County Board of Mental Illness.  After serving the county, Monica opened her own law practice in August 2007. She served as owner and sole practitioner of Mattson Law Office, P.C., handling all areas of civil, criminal, business, employment, appellate and administrative law.

After the birth of her daughter, Monica made the decision to practice law on a part-time basis. She joined Tschetter and Adams Law Office, P.C. in August 2013 as a staff attorney, where she remained until September 2022. Monica then returned to East River Legal Services where she currently serves as Managing Attorney.
